Fishguard vs. Cresselly 2nds                       06 - 06 - 2009

Fishguard (6) match abandoned (rain) v Cresselly 2nds 93 for3 (8).

When the twos left Cresselly in spotting rain, there were doubts whether the journey north to Fishguard would be worthwhile. The further north however the lighter the rain became. As we arrived in Fishguard there was no rain just threatening clouds. At the toss, Dick managed to lose it AGAIN at the twos were put into bat on a very damp wicket.

For the second time in less than a week, the twos were at a glorious sun drenched Cresselly for a league fixture against a strong Saundersfoot side.  The toss was again lost by Dick and visiting skipper James Caine must have fancied his side's chances of chasing down a total set by the twos who chose to have a bowl first.

The sun was shining brightly on Tuesday (2nd June) for the third round of the Ladies Cup competition in Neyland. The hosts won the toss and put Cresselly into bat; ending with a total score of 75 for 4 wickets off 20 overs. Cresselly batted solidly throughout the whole innings against one of the strongest teams in the league; taking full advantage of the big pitch by placing some beautiful shots within the gaps. Molly Furnival-Doran was top scorer of the night with 36 not out, supported by Megan Jenkins for 18. The running between the wickets by all of the Cresselly batters was excellent.

Match Report 4 - Cresselly Seconds v Herbrandston PDF Print E-mail

Herbrandston vs Cresselly 2nds                            23 - 05 - 2009

Herbrandston 150 for 8 (30) beat Cresselly 2nds 53 all out (5) by eight wickets.

The Twos made the trip to high flying Herbrandston (Herberston!!) knowing that a hard fought match was in front of them. Winning the toss, skipper Dog put Herbrandston in to bat first.

Herbrandston openers Nathan Banner and Lee Marchant were very aggressive early on. Chances came and went without being taken, and before the twos knew it there was 50 on the board. Drinks were taken with the score on 79 for no wicket, but as so often happens, drinks bought the fall of the first wicket. Marchant was first to depart having scored 33, and that started the collapse. Banner fell next over for 40 and in no time at all Herbrandston had slumped to 100 for 7. There were two wickets apiece to Sam Harts and Iwan Izzard and Dick the Dog took 3 for 26. Steady batting at the end by Steve Bennett (12) and Wayne Jones (19no) saw Herbrandston in sight of the 45 overs and they finished with a big six from the last ball to take them to maximum batting points at tea with 150 for 8.

Andrew Harris and Scott Arthur opened for the twos, but Arthur was soon back in the pavilion and Rhydian Rees followed the next ball. Wickets tumbled and it was only Harris that got to grips scoring 18 before running himself out. Nick Davies hit the only four of the innings and Huw Evans and Sion Jenkins also recorded ducks.

The twos were obviously disappointed with the batting performance, but will learn from the lesson received.

Cresselly 2nds team: Richard Arthur, Rhydian Rees, Simon Allen-Clarke, Scott Arthur, Nick Davies, Huw Evans, Sam Harts,  Iwan Izzard, Sion Jenkins, Mathew Lewis, Neal Williams.

Cresselly 2nds vs. Pembroke                        16 - 05 - 2009

Cresselly 2nds 165 for 9 (30) beat Pembroke 86 (30) all out by 79 runs.

The Twos traveled welcomed Pembroke looking to make amends for the loss suffered the previous week. Pembroke won the toss and stuck the twos in on a mildly damp wicket.

Openers Scott Arthur and Neal Williams started steadily before Williams was first to depart for 16. Wickets fell at regular intervals, but Arthur remained at one end before falling one run short of what would have been a well deserved half century. This bought Sam Harts and Simon Allen-Clarke together and both looked comfortable at the crease scoring 20 and 24 respectively. Both were lost in the late run chase and Huw Neale was undefeated with 17 at the end as the twos innings finished at 165 for9.

Opening bowler Sion Jenkins steamed in, in a hostile burst of bowling and was unlucky to have only taken 4 scalps for 44 runs. Huw Neale gave the attack a great balance in his first appearance of the season, taking 2 for 14 in a very accurate spell. Sam Harts came on to finish Pembroke off with a tremendous spell of 4 for 14 to give the twos victory and the full 30 points

Cresselly 2nds team: Richard Arthur, Simon Allen-Clarke, Scott Arthur, Nick Davies, Sam Harts,  Iwan Izzard, Sion Jenkins, Mathew Lewis, Huw Neale, Steven Thomas, Neal Williams.
